A “road” is any available space for temporary occupancy while moving or a path towards a goal or a proficiency. How can we begin to describe every possible road? It would not be worth it to do so. Remember, wherever you are, the Lord will open a road!
While at a church in rural eastern Kentucky almost 20 years ago, we used to prepare for Sunday service by going to the church on each preceding Saturday and walking each aisle, and traveling through each pew touching where there were going to be people sitting hearing the Word of God the next day.
We tried to envision the challenges each person might be facing while listening to Word of God on Sunday. Even though there was no way to predict any response, we knew that praying for people ahead of time was allowing us to relinquish the response to God’s authority, timing, and impact.
The question can be asked, “Would the same response to the preaching on any Sunday have happened had we not prayed on each preceding Saturday?” No one can answer that. Why not?
“Because the power of prayer is not based on the one saying the prayer, but the One who is answering the prayer.”
We found out that praying on Saturday was not so much for establishing a road like a specific aisle. But it was paving a way for a person to come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ or for a person who had strayed from the truth to make their way back into the fold. The Saturday prayer wasn’t about a specific time. It was for a specific purpose. In fact, we are instructed to pray all the time. That doesn’t mean we are to close our eyes while driving our vehicle or clog the grocery checkout line by bowing our heads while buying food. It simply means being in an attitude of prayer. And if we remain in that mind-set, we become more effective and less prone to being attacked by the enemy.
Acts 12:5 says: “Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.”
Romans 1:9 says: “For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers.
I Thessalonians 5:16-18 says: “Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
2 Timothy 1:3 says: “I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day…”
“Lord, help us in our attitude in prayer. Help us to know that as the Holy Spirit guides us in our communication with You and others that we need to exhibit the attributes of solid character and faith. In Christ’s Name. Amen.”
