Intersection ahead? What does that mean to a driver? What does that mean to a Christian who is going along the road in their lives? Generally, it means there is a situation in the near future where a conflict of space will occur. If two vehicles enter an “intersection” at the same time, neither one will come out of it the same was when they went in. If two people are part of a situation at the same time; it changes them, as well.
So what are we to do when we come upon the many intersections in this life? What kind of intersections are there? If we aren’t careful, we could hit a train or a train could hit us; causing a lot of damage. If we aren’t careful, an illicit rendezvous with another person outside of our marriage could spell all kinds of trouble.
Distractions of other paths that are in our proximity can also slow us down or tempt us to change off the road the Lord has us on for maximum purpose and fulfillment. If we focus too much on financial accumulation without weaving generosity and philanthropy into the mix, the road takes us onto a side road filled with selfish consumption and hoarding. Understanding God’s provisions allows us freedom to explore all He has to offer along the paths He guides us to.
Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
A unique thing as a believer is that God knows all the potential intersections that can lead us in the wrong direction, and provides signage to help us navigate through them. If potential for power, prestige, and influence that feeds our desires exceeds that capacity which God knows we can handle, He exerts His power to provide protective shields and warnings to keep us on track. These come in various points in time well in advance of the temptation. Daily reading of His Scripture allows Him to speak to us through those passages.
Many times, we can’t see that far ahead, but the Lord can. He sees things that we can’t see. He knows we must rely on Him to guide us down dangerous and potentially harmful paths.
Isaiah 55:8 – 9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Proverbs 3:5 – 6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and He shall direct thy paths.
Psalm 23:3 He restoreth my soul: he leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
“Lord, so many of us get caught up looking ahead instead of up. Forgive us for thinking we have a handle on our direction without Your hand upon us. Let’s be sensitive to YOUR leading us. In Christ’s Name. Amen.”
